High-Performance Sport with a Rope – A Quick Word with Luna Kosic
Double Dutch, Frog, Triple Under – any idea what those are?
Don’t worry, we didn’t either. Or…only vaguely!
As a teenager, I – Franzi – actually went to a jump rope camp once. Yes, you heard right – we’re talking about jump rope. But: jump rope isn’t just jump rope.
What most of us used to do on the school playground has little in common with what our A Quick Word guest Luna Kosic does. For her, it’s called rope skipping – and it’s a high-performance sport: fast, creative, technically demanding, and incredibly impressive.
In our video podcast, the four-time German champion, who is sponsored by RAMPF, explains key rope-skipping terms and shares stories from her competitions, including her world championship in Japan. She also gives a behind-the-scenes look at her training and talks about balancing school, sponsors, and preparing for the world stage—plus her vision for the sport’s future.
Fun fact: I was proud to know at least one term – the ‘Brezel’ (pretzel). Turns out, that’s just a slang word kids use; the official name for the move is completely different. You never stop learning!
Anyone who thinks jump rope is just child’s play or a simple recess pastime will change their mind after this conversation. Promise. Enjoy!
