Bridging Profession & Purpose: How A RAMPF Marketing Expert Is Changing Lives in Detroit

Corporate Social Responsibility

Samer Alfahad, a marketing expert at RAMPF Group, Inc., proves that professional expertise can have an impact far beyond the desk. He helped to found Eye Care For Detroit – an initiative that provides people in Detroit with access to urgently needed eye care they otherwise could not afford. It is an inspiring story of courage, compassion, and the power of taking responsibility – and a compelling example of how professional skills and social commitment can come together to make a real difference.

Better vision for a better quality of life

In the heart of Detroit, more than 40,000 people face an existential crisis. They are at risk of losing their sight – not because their conditions are untreatable but because they simply cannot access the care they need.

Barriers like cost, lack of awareness, and transportation challenges stand between these homebound residents and something most of us take for granted: the ability to see.

Eye Care For Detroit, Inc. (ECFD) was born from this critical need – and from a deep commitment to care for the community. The nonprofit’s mission is to bring high-quality, affordable eye care directly to those who need it most.

Through walk-in clinics, mobile units, and in-home visits, ECFD provides comprehensive eye exams, affordable eyewear, and personalized support. The services are designed to improve access to care, ensuring patients receive the treatment they need to see clearly and enjoy a better quality of life.

“We felt compelled to act”

ECFD was founded in 2022 by Dr. Cleamon Moorer, Jr. and Samer Alfahad, who works at RAMPF’s US subsidiary as a marketing coordinator. The idea took root during Samer’s internship at Dr. Moorer’s company, American Advantage Home Care, Inc., a provider of high-quality patient care services. There, he noticed a troubling pattern: too many seniors were going without the essential eye care they desperately needed.

“We felt compelled to act,” Samer recalls.

With support from TechTown Detroit, a nonprofit that helps local startups grow, the team brought their idea to life – and won first place in TechTown’s pitch competition. On March 31, 2025, ECFD officially opened its walk-in clinic, and its mobile unit is since fully operational, allowing the team to reach patients in their homes.

Knowledge transfer between business and nonprofit organization

As part of the launch team, Samer led ECFD’s entire marketing efforts, developing the brand identity, logo, and website; crafting its voice; and rolling out outreach strategies across social, print, and digital platforms.

It was a crash course in purpose-driven marketing – and it has had a profound impact on his work at RAMPF’s US subsidiary based in Wixom, around thirty miles from Detroit:

  • Strategic planning:

Developing and executing go-to-market strategies at ECFD laid a strong foundation that I now leverage at RAMPF to drive more impactful product launches and deepen customer engagement.

  • Presentation skills:

My nonprofit fundraising skills, particularly pitching and narrative building, have sharpened how I present value propositions.

  • Project management:

Managing product rollouts, marketing campaigns, and trade shows at RAMPF gave me the operational insight needed to successfully launch and manage the mobile clinic at ECFD.

  • Marketing crossover:

Targeted outreach at ECFD taught me effective customer segmentation strategies – skills I now apply to enhance RAMPF’s marketing precision and reach.

Leading by serving

Samer’s journey has been shaped by the guidance of Dr. Cleamon Moorer, who served as a trusted mentor throughout. Born with congenital cataracts and legally blind by twenty-one, Dr. Moorer’s sight was restored thanks to a $6,000 surgery made possible by a heartfelt letter from his mother and the generosity of a hospital guild.

That act of kindness – and his mother’s final plea to “give back” – became the foundation of his life’s mission.

Cleamon models the value of giving back with excellence. Not just doing good – but doing it well,

Samer emphasizes.

Under Dr. Moorer’s guidance, he embraced servant leadership, learning to build systems that empower people, not just processes.

As a Detroit native and first-generation college graduate, this mission is deeply personal for Samer:

I’ve lived the struggle our patients face. I know what it means to feel unseen. My education gave me tools; Eye Care for Detroit gives me purpose. I believe in reinvesting the opportunities I’ve received into the community that raised me.

A milestone that reflects passion, purpose, and impact

Just a few days ago, on June 10, the Detroit City Council unanimously honored ECFD with the prestigious Spirit of Detroit Award, recognizing the organization’s outstanding contributions to the community.

In a powerful gesture of appreciation, the Council also presented Dr. Cleamon Moorer with a Testimonial Resolution, officially recording the organization’s mission in the city’s archives.

Congratulations to Samer and everyone at Eye Care for Detroit on this outstanding achievement!
