Machine beds and components

RAMPF Machine Systems develops and produces innovative machine beds and machine bed components using high-performance materials.

Alternative materials such as mineral casting (polymer concrete/EPUMENT) and ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC/EPUDUR) score points with their outstanding damping properties, low thermal conductivity, high isotropy, homogeneity and media resistance, flexible shaping, chipless moulding and innovative bonding technology.
Furthermore, the integration of sensors and actuators in machine beds and frame components made from alternative materials can be used to create so-called "intelligent machine structures". These include sensors for temperature measurements to detect interference heat and corresponding temperature control lines that can be used to counteract interference heat.
In particular, the mineral casting developed and produced by RAMPF for machine beds and frame components scores highly thanks to its resource-saving production and environmentally friendly disposal and recycling:

  • EPUMENT mineral casting and EPUDUR ultra-high performance concrete are poured cold into moulds made of wood, steel or plastic. This means that up to 4.5 times less primary energy is consumed during production compared to other materials for machine beds and frame components.
  • The high casting accuracy, coupled with RAMPF's high-precision in-house moulding technology, saves the otherwise necessary transport of machine beds and frame components to external processors and reduces / avoids the use of processing machines.
  • EPUMENT mineral casting and EPUDUR ultra-high performance concrete consist of over 90 per cent naturally occurring minerals and rocks as well as an epoxy resin-based binder in the case of EPUMENT and a cement-based binder in the case of EPUDUR. This means that the machine bed and frame component materials can be disposed of like normal construction waste.
  • The shredding of mineral casting parts and ultra-high performance concrete in large shredder plants to produce high-grade chippings and the separation of metal built-in parts has been tried and tested. High-grade chippings made from mineral casting can be used as construction waste recycling material in road and path construction, in industrial construction, in the surface sealing of landfill sites or in green spaces.

Mineral casting (EPUMENT®)

EPUMENT® mineral casting is a high-tech material that is perfect for the primary machine bed functions, such as precisely securing the geometric position of the individual machine elements, and the static, dynamic, thermal, and acoustic absorption of forces and moments.

Ultra-high performance concrete (EPUDUR)

EPUDUR is an ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) based on the latest generation of premium cements. It has been further developed from Mikrodur technology using nano-structured synthetic silica.

Hard stone (EPUSTONE)

Industrially mined hard stone (commonly known as granite) has been used for several decades for measuring plates, straightness and angle standards, and machine bed components for measuring and high-precision production machinery. Hard stone is an isotropic, homogeneous material that follows Hooke’s law and can be analyzed using linear-elastic FEM modeling.

Composite constructions (EPUFILL)

For four decades, cavities in steel or cast iron machine beds and machine bed components have been filled with epoxy resin-bonded mineral casting. Initially often used to subsequently improve dynamic performance, this has since become a process in its own right.
