Front wing for Formula Student
Precision in perfection with RAKU® TOOL MB-0670
May the Downforce be with You!
Please excuse the pun but we just completed an exciting project with the Formula Student Team Ecurie Aix from RWTH Aachen.
Our board material supported the production of a front wing for their high-performance race car, designed to generate downforce, enhancing grip and stability during high-speed cornering.
RAKU® TOOL MB-0670 was used to manufacture 18 master models to produce lay-up tools via resin infusion. With its excellent machinability and processing capabilities, as well as top-notch surface quality, our polyurethane board ensures the creation of ultra-precise and durable tools. Get in touch with us today – we look forward to your challenge!
Application
Manufacturing a new front wing to improve aerodynamics and the lift coefficient (cL value).
The board material MB-0670 was used to produce 18 master models to manufacture lay-up tools via resin infusion.
REQUIREMENTS FOR BOARD MATERIAL MB-0670:
- Easy machinability/processing with good surface quality
Production Process
1. RAKU® TOOL MB-0670 is machined to the desired dimensions.
2. The master model is sanded, sealed, and divided into segments.
3. The master model is covered with carbon fiber (CFRP), and an infusion is performed to create the prepreg lay-up tool.
4. The CFRP tool is sanded, sealed, and also divided into segments.
5. The prepreg is laid into the CFRP tool.
6. Depending on the type of component, it may be necessary to cure the component multiple times in an autoclave to add additional components such as ribs or honeycomb core material.
