Gray cast iron

A ferrous material with a carbon content greater than 2% but rarely higher than 4.5%. Gray cast iron refers to cast irons in which elementary graphite is embedded in the matrix during crystallization. Different types are distinguished by the form of their graphite inclusions, e.g. lamellar graphite (GJL), spheroidal graphite (GJS), and malleable iron (GJM).
