Thermal shock resistance

When a material is exposed to continuous heating and cooling, thermal stresses arise that lead to expansion and distortion. The stress causes deformations and cracks in the material, which can lead to fractures. Therefore, thermal shock resistance is a characteristic feature of materials that measures its resistance to temperature fluctuations.
