Shrinkage

Shrinkage refers to the change in volume of a material without removing material components or exerting pressure. Shrinkage is triggered by drying, cooling, chemical reactions or physical conversion reactions in the material.  Thus the shrinkage process is frequently reversible but may cause cracks or tension in the material.
