Plastics mold engineering

In model and mold engineering, various molds are produced using plastic materials, as these offer a cost-effective alternative to metals such as aluminum and steel. Examples of molds made of plastics are casting molds for molding resins or lay-up tools for composite parts.

The advantages of plastic materials in mold making are their simple mechanical workability, lower weight, and the easy implementation of changes. Plastic materials for mold engineering offer a high level of efficiency for prototype and small series molds, which have lower requirements with regard to the service life and cycle times of molds.
